Code of Conduct

Discipline and Behavior Policy

As a cooperative school, it is important to teach our children not only the subject but also how to behave in a classroom setting.  The following is our policy:

Co-op Behavior Expectations

Reasonable classroom decorum is expected. This can vary from class to class depending on what is being taught and the parent teaching it.

Consequences

Co-op has a three-strike discipline policy that is dependent upon teachers and helpers following it. The co-op board is not responsible for things that are never told to them in a timely manner.

    1. Verbal Warning

    2. Time out or seat movement if necessary

    3. Removed from class and taken to Mrs. DeOs. She will decide if the child can finish the remainder of the day.

    4. If this happens two times in one Co-op, then the student will be out the rest of the day plus the whole next Co-op.

    5. If this happens two times during the semester, then the student will be asked not to return to Co-op again during the semester.

Aggression

Co-op has a zero tolerance policy for verbal and physical aggression.  This includes hitting, kicking, shoving, bullying, foul language, yelling or screaming at students or teachers, etc.  If a child exhibits aggressive behavior, they will be removed immediately from all co-op classes for the day.  If this happens a second time, they will be removed from co-op for the rest of the semester.  Future re-admittance will be decided by the Co-op Board of Directors.

While we as a co-op will do our best to uphold this consequence policy we reserve the right to make judgement calls based on extreme behaviours and remove a child from a class to their parents at any time and also the right to not have them continue with our co-op.

Illness/Attendance Policies & Expectations

Illness

Children with the following symptoms should not attend Co-op classes or nursery:

  1. Colored mucus
  2. Diarrhea, vomiting, or nausea
  3. Eye drainage
  4. Virus or contagious infection
  5. Rashes
  6. Head lice
  7. Fever or vomiting within the last 24 hours

Babies may stay with parents and still attend Co-op if not exposing other students. Please keep in mind this is done for the protection of the children and families, so we can continue to provide the highest quality program for all the children.

Attendance

This is a Co-op and not a drop-off school situation. It is very important for us to have as many moms attending each week as possible. We know that there are special circumstances or illness that prevents families from being at every Co-op. If you are ill or have to miss, please ask someone to cover your classes and any other responsibilities for that day. We’ve had some trouble in the past with moms scheduling doctor appointments or work on co-op days. This just doesn’t work with the philosophy of our group.

Other Expectations

  1. Clothing Issues:
No underwear showing, no tank tops by themselves, modest shirts (not too tight, too short or too low), no “plumber” pants, dresses or skirts need to be the knee or layered with pants or long shorts, shorts must be mid thigh or longer.

  2. Relationships:
No boyfriends/girlfriends at Co-op. No teasing boys or girls if they are friends; only encouraging words about others (no gossiping).

  3. Electronics:
No cell phones, iPods, MP3s or electronics at Co-op for any students.
